Assistant manager says everyone is aware of the significance of Saturday’s game against Rotherham
Steve Walford says the players and staff are fully aware of the importance of Saturday’s fixture against Rotherham at Macron Stadium.
Bolton head into the fixture on the back of a positive midweek showing at Wolves and victory would see Bolton close the gap between themselves and Rotherham to a single point.
And assistant boss Walford is keen for the players to build on the performance at Wolves ahead of what he describes as a ‘must not lose’ game against the Millers.
“We’d like to think that the belief is back,” Walford said. “We had a bit of a dip during the game against Leeds in the FA Cup, but responded excellently against Wolves on Tuesday night.
“To come back in the manner we did at Wolves showed great character. What we must now do is follow it up. We’ve been in this position before and failed to follow it up.
“The Rotherham game is one we simply cannot afford to lose. The players fully understand the importance of this game.
“Rotherham are a decent team and they will certainly make things tough for us. I think we’ll be in for a decent game.
“We didn’t turn up against them on Boxing Day. Zach Clough had a really good chance early on, but aside from that we didn’t play at all well on the day. It was one of the worst performances during our time at the club, so we feel we owe them one.”
