Josh Vela pays special birthday visit to James Weir

Josh Vela paid a special visit to James Weir on Thursday afternoon as part of his 21st birthday celebrations.

James, who is autistic and as a result is anxious and struggles to make friends, has been taken into the hearts of those across Bolton and beyond in recent weeks following his sister Lucy's appeal for people to help him celebrate his birthday by sending in cards.

And mankind certainly responded to her request, with over 4,000 cards from around the world making their way to James for his special day, alongside a visit from Wanderers' No.6 who brought along a special cake for the Weir family to enjoy.

Speaking afterwards, Vela said, "It's been really lovely to come down here and surprise James on his special day.

"He's a real character and he told me that it was his dream to become famous, which he definitely is now!"

James' sister Lucy - a season ticket holder at Macron Stadium - echoed Vela's sentiments, adding, "I just wanted to make his 21st extra special - it's amazing how the appeal has just spiralled!

"We are so thankful to Josh for giving up his time to come and wish James a happy birthday. He was so lovely and listened to James and answered his many questions! James was so happy and it has definitely made his birthday extra special."
