Jonathan Grounds joins on loan

Bolton Wanderers are pleased to announce the signing of Jonathan Grounds on a season-long loan from Birmingham City.

The 30-year-old makes the temporary switch to the University of Bolton Stadium after four years at St Andrew’s.

Born in Thornaby-on-Tees, the left-back made his foray into the game with Middlesbrough after coming through their youth set-up and had five years as a professional on Teesside, enjoying loan stints with Norwich City, Hibernian, Chesterfield and Yeovil Town.

Departing the Riverside Stadium in 2012, he moved down to the North West and spent two seasons with Oldham Athletic in League One.

His efforts caught the eye of Birmingham and in the summer of 2014, the Blues moved to take him to St Andrew’s where he has been a stalwart in defence for the Midlands based outfit ever since.

Commenting on his move to the University of Bolton Stadium, Grounds said: "I’m really excited to get going.

"I’m really pleased that I’m at Bolton Wanderers and I’m looking forward to meeting everyone and getting going.

"Speaking to the manager was definitely one of the things that helped me make my decision, as well as how much he wanted to get me up here.

"It’s going to be a good place for me to come and play football and I’m ready for the challenge."
