Adam Mitchell made his senior international debut for New Zealand on Saturday as the All Whites fell to a 1-0 defeat in their friendly with Canada.
The versatile defender, who had previously been capped by his country at Under-17 and Under-20 level, was handed his first full cap by recently appointed boss Fritz Schmid as he started at right-back.
However, Mitchell’s debut was short-lived as he was forced off inside 15 minutes after sustaining a hamstring injury and was replaced by substitute Dane Ingham.
Happy to make my starting debut for New Zealand, disappointed it was cut short due to injury. But still a proud moment ⚽️🇳🇿 pic.twitter.com/L19LLMYi7O

Elsewhere, there was delight for Luca Connell and the Republic of Ireland as they booked their place at this year’s UEFA European Under-17 Championship with a match to spare.
Connell played every minute of his side’s 3-0 and 2-0 wins over Macedonia and Georgia respectively. The Irish play Poland in their final game on Tuesday night.
On-loan defender Antonee Robinson will be hoping to emulate teammate Mitchell by making his senior international debut, with the United States also in action tomorrow night as they take on Paraguay in a friendly.
