Bolton U23s head coach David Lee was left ruing missed chances in a good performance against Leeds U23s, as his side fell to defeat.
Playing at Elland Road, United scored twice in two second half minutes to earn the victory but Wanderers had hit the woodwork twice in the opening 45.
Speaking to bwfc.co.uk after the game, he said…
“For the first 45 minutes we were excellent, on another day, if your chances go in the back of the net you win the game comfortably.
“We created a lot of opportunities, we kept them down to maybe one or two chances in the first half.
“I was pleased with the way we pressed the ball because they do like to take risks at the back and our game plan was to press them high, which we did.
“It forced them into mistakes, Connor Hall, Erhun Oztumer and Jack Earing got in a couple of times.
“We created a lot of opportunities we just needed that little bit of composure to put the ball in the back of the net for all the good work that we had.”
On small margins and ruing missed opportunities…
“You’ve got to take the chances at this level.
“If you don’t, you can guarantee that over the 90 minutes the opposition will create opportunities.
“The minute of madness where they’ve scored two goals where the lads made a diagonal run across the 18-yard box, has gone untracked, and puts the ball in the back of the net and sometimes that’s the difference.”
On individual errors and moving on…
“If you look over the 90 minutes there wasn’t much between the teams but they had that clinical edge.
“Sometimes it’s not about how good the opposition is it’s the mistakes that individuals make.
“I’ve just been through it with our boys, they’ve made individual mistakes and at this level you do get punished.
“We’ve got another week’s training to be ready to go again at Barnsley with the young lads.”
