Wanderers welcome striker Delfouneso

NATHAN DELFOUNESO has fortified Head Coach Ian Evatt’s attacking options ahead of the forthcoming Sky Bet League Two campaign by agreeing a two-year deal with Bolton Wanderers.

A graduate of the Aston Villa academy, the 29 year-old striker moves across Lancashire having previously played for Blackpool.

He signed professional forms at Villa Park in 2008 and at the age of 17 became the Villans youngest ever player in European competition when he came off the bench in a second round UEFA Cup match.
Whilst in the West Midlands, he earned valuable league experience during loan spells with Burnley, Leicester City, Blackpool and Coventry City.

In 2014 Delfouneso joined Blackpool, for the first of his spells on the coast, and played in 38 league games, scoring three goals before joining Blackburn the following year.

After a loan spell with Bury, he joined Swindon Town in 2016 and then returned to Blackpool in 2017 where he made 125 league appearances, netting 24 goals.

He has also represented England at under 16s, under 17s, under 19s and under 21s.

Commenting on his move to the University of Bolton Stadium, Delfouneso said: “I’m delighted to sign for a club of this magnitude and size with the history that it’s got.

“It’s great to be here and I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead.

“The things that have been said to me by the staff here and the faith they’ve put in me was a big factor in me coming here.

“Hearing the ambition the club has and what they want to achieve going forward is exciting. It’s almost like a reset button has been pressed and I can only see the club going in one direction.”

Head Coach Ian Evatt added: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome Nathan Delfouneso to the football club.

“Nathan has a great pedigree and is a top, top player at this level. He brings pace and quality to the side and we are excited to see what he and Eoin (Doyle) can do as a forward partnership.”
