Ricardo Almeida Santos Named As Bolton Wanderers’ 2020/21 Player Of The Year

Ricardo Almeida Santos has been named as Bolton Wanderers’ Player of the Year for the 2020/21 campaign by the club’s fans.

The defender, who arrived at the University of Bolton Stadium last summer, featured in every single minute of Wanderers’ promotion-winning campaign.

The former Peterborough United and Barnet centre back picked up the accolade with 52% of the votes submitted by the Wanderers faithful.

Goalkeeper Matt Gilks was runner up, while Wanderers’ top scorer Eoin Doyle was in third spot.

Almeida Santos was also chosen as the Players’ Player of the Year by his team-mates following a fantastic season which culminated in an immediate return to Sky Bet League One.

Wanderers fans also voted for their Goal of the Season and chose Antoni Sarcevic’s strike against Crawley Town on the last day of the season which set Ian Evatt’s men on course for a 4-1 victory that sealed their promotion.

George Thomason was named as the club’s Young Player of the Year after breaking through into the first team following a loan spell at Bamber Bridge earlier in the campaign.

The midfielder, who penned a new contract in February, made 25 first team appearances, scoring one goal for Wanderers and is set for a bright future with the club.

Eoin Doyle’s 19 goals for Wanderers saw him top the goalscoring charts in his debut season for the club and he consequently picked up the Golden Boot award.

The Irishman was the first player to score more than 15 goals in a season for Wanderers since Michael Ricketts reached that tally in the 2001/02 campaign.

Bolton-born defender Harry Brockbank was named as the Community Player of the Year for the exceptional work he has carried out with the Community Trust, where he is the club’s Mental Health Ambassador.
