Antoni Sarcevic has revealed that the disappointment of last Saturday's home defeat to Exeter City inspired Bolton Wanderers to get the job done on the final day of the season at Crawley Town in style and confirm automatic promotion to Sky Bet League One.
Needing a victory at the University of Bolton Stadium against the Grecians last weekend to win promotion on home soil with a game to spare, Ian Evatt’s men succumbed to a last-gasp defeat.
The Wanderers captain, who got his team on their way at Crawley with the opening goal in a 4-1 victory at the People's Pension Stadium, revealed that following that loss against Exeter he and his team-mates regrouped to ensure they ended the season in style.
He said: “It’s unbelievable. I’m just made up that we’ve got it over the line and I just want everyone associated with this club to celebrate and just enjoy this moment.
“We were gutted last weekend. It was devastating but we knew what we had to do and this shows the character of this group. We came here today and we took it out on Crawley.
“Once I got into that position, I just wanted to make sure it hit the back of the net and got this game by the scruff of the neck today. I’m just made up that I did see it hit the back of the net.”
“None of us wanted to feel that feeling again. I can’t tell you the feeling in that dressing room. I’ve never felt it in all the years I’ve been a footballer. It was devastating.
"But we had to dust ourselves off because it was in our hands. We went into this game not bothered about any other result, I promise you, it was about us and we took it out on Crawley and everyone can see the performance today was unbelievable.”
