Academy Open Day Chance For Young Keepers

The Wanderers’ Academy is looking to spread its net to land the best young goalkeeping talent around.

The Whites are to hold an open day for young keepers next month to offer the chance to catch the eye and potentially gain a place at the club’s Academy.

The sessions, which must be pre-booked in advance to gain a place, will be open to players from U8-U16 on Sunday, 6 February at the Eddie Davies Academy in Lostock.

Academy and senior goalkeeping staff will be on hand at Wanderers’ training ground to watch and oversee the sessions and give and help and advice to the young keepers who attend.

Head of Academy Goalkeeping Andy Fairman said: “This is an opportunity for young goalkeepers in the area to come and showcase their skills and for us to see first-hand the potential talent that’s out there.

“It may also apply to outfield players at younger ages who are looking to switch to play in goal, with athleticism and all-round skills often key factors in the early stages of development.

“We are always on the look-out for youngsters at the right levels who we believe would strengthen and benefit from being in our Academy set-up and so we look forward to seeing as many as possible on the day.”

The sessions will run from 11am-12.30pm for school years 3 (U8) to 6 (U11) and 1pm-2.30pm for schools years 7 (U12) to 11 (U16).

Places at the open day must be booked in advance via email at goalkeeping@bwfc.co.uk
