Ian Evatt believes Wanderers are still in great shape to secure a play-off spot after extending their unbeaten run and remaining in the top six.
An early goal from former Burton striker Victor Adeboyejo wasn’t enough to make it three away wins on the spin for the Whites as the Brewers struck through substitute Josh Walker to secure a 1-1 draw.
But Evatt was delighted with a high-quality performance from his side who have three of their final four games at home in their bid to earn a place in the play-offs.
“There was a lot to like about that performance,” said the Wanderers’ boss.
“If they play like that for the next four games, we’ll have no problems. We’re still in the top six, which is all-important. We still have that extra game.
“It’s like we’ve always wanted it. It’s down to us and in our hands, so we have to keep going and do the business.
“We’ve had to do the hard yards since Wembley. We’ve had three away games. We’re unbeaten in all of those and won two of them. Now we’re back at our place. Hopefully we can pack it out and get the results we need.”
Wanderers could have earned some breathing space over seventh-placed Derby if they had turned long periods of pressure into goals against a Burton side fresh off the back of home wins over promotion-chasing Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley.
But the Whites are now unbeaten in five league games either side of their Papa Johns Trophy win as they continue to keep their hopes of a Wembley return alive.
“For us to come and perform like we did tonight, people should take great pride in it,” added Evatt
“We’re probably a little bit disappointed not to win it. It was a very good performance – our best performance, in my opinion, since Wembley.
“They are always going to have one or two moments. James (Trafford) made an excellent save and was then unlucky with the goal.
“But we had enough chances to win two or three games. Tonight was one of those nights when we just couldn’t quite get that goal. We deserved it, we didn’t get it, but it’s probably a decent point. There was lots to like about what we did.”
