Wanderers’ B Team has added another new recruit with a Premier League background with the acquisition of former Liverpool youngster Charlie Hayes-Green.
Hayes-Green has agreed a first professional contract – for one year with the option of a further 12 months – with the Whites.
The left-sided central defender becomes the B Team’s second summer signing and follows former Leeds United academy product Ben Andreucci in joining Matt Craddock’s squad.
Hayes-Green, 18, moves to Wanderers after ending a 12-year association with Liverpool.
The Wirral-born defender made his debut for Liverpool’s U18 side as a 16-year-old before becoming a regular member of the squad in the 2021/22 season.
He made 13 appearances in the U18 Premier League last season, as well as making a debut in the Papa Johns Trophy as a substitute in a group game at Rochdale.
And after overcoming one or two injury issues that limited his game-time as a scholar with the Reds, Hayes-Green is determined to make the most of his opportunity with Wanderers after joining the professional ranks.
“I’m really excited to start a new chapter at Bolton Wanderers. It’s a really proud moment for myself and my family,” he said.
“I’ve learnt a lot from being at Liverpool for so long and I need to transfer all of those skills to help me next season at Bolton.
“The game has changed a lot and it’s really important to be comfortable on the ball as a centre-half. Hopefully I can show that in my performances because it’s something I really enjoy.
“Bolton has a real buzz about the place. The stadium is a statement in itself.
“It is a new start for me and I’m really excited to show what I can do. I need to take every week as it comes and push as far as I can.”
The arrival of Hayes-Green from 1 July continues Wanderers’ summer recruitment plans at B Team level as the Whites aim to keep pushing forward with their development project.
At least one more arrival is expected to supplement the squad which will start its second season in 2023/24 with the long-term aim of bridging the gap between Academy and first-team football and producing potential first-team players of the future
