Today, we once again remember the 33 Wanderers’ supporters who went to watch a match and sadly never came home.
Seventy-nine years ago on 9th March, 1946 Wanderers played Stoke City in an FA Cup tie at Burnden Park.
With a crowd estimated at around 85,000 – 15,000 more than capacity – 33 fans lost their lives in a crush which became the Burnden Park Disaster.

Many more suffered life-changing injuries in what, at the time, was the worst tragedy in British football and left a lasting memory on Bolton Wanderers Football Club, the town and its people.
We continue to remember those that lost their lives with their names included in our Book of Remembrance, which is open at the front of the Toughsheet Community Stadium.
As ever, at our Annual Service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving at the end of the season we will also pause to remember those that died in the tragedy and light candles in their memory.
Those that perished will not be forgotten.
