Wanderers have swooped to sign creative frontman Rob Apter on loan from Charlton Athletic for the remainder of the season.
The 22-year-old winger checks into the Toughsheet Community Stadium immediately, adding pace and a proven goal threat to Steven Schumacher’s forward line for the League One run-in.
Apter arrives with a reputation as one of the EFL’s most exciting dribblers. A left-footed specialist who operates primarily from the right flank, he enjoyed a breakout 2023/24 season on loan at Tranmere Rovers, where his 13 goals and six assists saw him named League Two Young Player of the Season.
That form earned him a prominent role at Blackpool the following year - netting eight times - before his summer switch to the Championship with Charlton.
Apter, who has represented Scotland at Under-21 level, will train with his new team-mates tomorrow ahead of Saturday’s trip to AFC Wimbledon.
Speaking to Wanderers TV, he said: “I’m made up. As soon as I heard about the move, this was the place I wanted to be.
“The staff and the size of the club, the fans and pushing towards promotion, they were the things that attracted me to the club. I want to be playing to get promoted out of this league because I think this club should be playing in a higher league.
“I think I did really well in League One last season and I’ve played in the Championship this season. I just want to contribute with goals and assists to help the team.
“I’m an exciting player and like to get the fans off their seats. Once I get on the pitch I think everyone will be able to see what I’m about. I can’t wait to get into training and get going on Saturday.”
Apter, who will wear squad number 15, becomes Wanderers’ fifth signing of the January transfer window following the arrivals of goalkeepers Jack Bonham and David Harrington. defender Lewis Temple and Corey Blackett-Taylor who arrived yesterday.
