The B Team starts its Central League Cup challenge with an opening group game at Rotherham United Reserves this afternoon (Tuesday).
The fixture will be played behind closed doors at the Millers’ Roundwood training ground (KO 2pm).
Rotherham have collected a win and a draw from their first two games in Group A, while the Whites still have to play both Stoke City and Wigan Athletic after getting their campaign up and running in North Yorkshire.
The top team in the group will progress to the knock-out stages and B Team boss Andy Taylor is looking forward to a competitive run-out for his side after a couple of recent postponements.
Taylor said: “The challenge is to try and keep getting games and we’ve done pretty well over the past few weeks with training-ground matches against some good sides to implement what we’re traying to do with the young players.
“Those not currently out on loan benefit from playing as regularly as possible and it will be another good test against Rotherham, who may have some first-team players involved.
“It’s a cup competition and so, obviously, you want to try and do well. The B Team is about player development and sometimes getting players back after injury and giving them game time but as a team we also want to win so that’s what we’ll be trying to do again this afternoon.”
