B Team Preview | Wanderers v Wigan Athletic U21s

Wigan B preview

The B Team hits the cup trail again today (Tuesday) with the chance to try and reach the semi-finals of the Central League Cup.

Andy Taylor’s side must beat local rivals Wigan Athletic in a behind-closed-doors tie at Lostock (KO 1pm) to go past the Latics and top Group A.

A last-four clash with Blackpool is the prize after the Seasiders won three of their four games to head Group C.

Wanderers lost at Mansfield Town in the Central League last week but are hoping to maintain an interest in two cup competitions with a semi-final tie in the Lancashire FA Senior Cup still to come.

The young Whites have taken four points from their opening two group games in the Central League Cup and know another win would take them through at Wigan’s expense.

“It’s a good game for us to have at this stage,” said B Team boss Taylor. “We lost to a very experienced Mansfield side a week ago and this might be a different kind of test.

“It’s a cup game so there is something to play for and we know what we need to try and do. It’s good for the lads to have a target and it would be nice to get through to have another competitive game and the chance to try and win something at the end of the season.”

Our official X account @BWFCBandAcademy will carry up-dates from the game.
