The B Team secured another impressive pre-season result as they struck a late winner to beat Leeds United’s U21s.

Bouncing back from their only defeat to date at Warrington Rylands in mid-week, the Whites got back on the goal trail at Leeds’ Thorpe Arch training ground to record another friendly victory over top-grade Academy opposition.

After beating Everton’s U21s 3-0, Matt Craddock’s youngsters again hit the target three times with substitute Trevon Bryan (pictured) grabbing a 90th-minute winner.

Gez Sithole put Wanderers ahead from the penalty spot after Max Conway had been fouled before Leeds made it 1-1 at half-time.

Conway was involved in all three of the Whites’ goals as his cross was then helped on by former Leeds youngster Ben Andreucci for Arran Pettifer to drill home Wanderers’ second.

Leeds again hit back but Craddock’s side wouldn’t be denied victory and just before the end the Whites again moved the ball well and another Conway delivery was well controlled by Bryan before the striker swivelled and steered an excellent finish into the bottom corner of the net.

“It was a really good performance from the lads with some excellent goals,” said B Team boss Craddock.

“We passed the ball well against a good side and it was another positive day.

“It capped a really good week of mixed games, which is exactly what we want, and showed the lads they have to be fully at it and ready to meet every sort of challenge.”

The B Team is next in action with a home friendly against Huddersfield Town B on Tuesday, 15 August (KO 1pm) before starting their Central League campaign at Preston a week later.

Wanderers: Hutchinson; Matheson, Halford, Toure, Hayes-Green, Conway, Khumbeni, Pettifer (Sharples 84), Tweedley, Sithole (Andreucci HT), Lockett (Bryan 77).
