Preston Wanderers B Team

Wanderers end their Central League campaign with a point on the road at Preston, held at Springfields Training Ground.

Andy Taylor's side couldn't find the breakthrough in a game that lacked chances with their best opportunity coming in the second half when Harrison Rice was controversially denied when his effort was saved seemingly outside the area by Preston's goalkeeper as the ball was diverted onto the post.

But Wanderers started the game on the backfoot, with Felipe Rodriguez Gentile flicking a header over the bar from inside the bar following a cross from the left on 17 minutes.

Eight minutes later Isaac Lam danced into the area past the Wanderers defence but his shot was a weak one which rolled into the arms of Jack Dallimore.

The Whites had their first chance after 27 minutes following a James Westwood throw in the direction of Mark Isong who turned his man and looked to curve an effort towards the top left corner but the strike went wide of the mark.

There were no more chances to speak of in the first half which B Team Boss Andy Taylor said resembled an "end of season game."

"It felt a little bit tired, a little bit lacking in spark and energy which is understandable we've got a lot of young players who have had a long season, it's a big toll on the bodies.

"I thought in the first two thirds of the pitch we played quite well especially first half, controlled the game just lacked a little bit of spark, energy and quality in the final third to break them down. And in the second half they just dropped into a real deep block and again we just struggled to break it down."

Wanderers did have opportunities to break the deadlock in the second half against a Preston side who spent the second period deep in their own third. Ten minutes after the break Isong headed wide following a short corner routine between Westwood and Ajay Weston.

Dallimore produced an incredible top corner save just after the hour mark when Preston's Clayton Lescott fired an effort from distance which was parried away for a corner.

The corner was initially cleared but crossed back into the area by Ed Nolan towards Felipe but his header went over the bar.

Wanderers best chance came in the 73rd minute when a long ball was played forward by the Whites and Preston keeper Li-Bau Stowell came out to gather but dropped the ball which landed at the feet of Rice who chipped the ball towards goal but a finger tip save from Stowell outside the area, that was missed by the officials, pushed the ball onto the post as the game finished level.

The B Team have the LFA Senior Cup final to look forward to on the 29th of April where they face Burnley.

Andy Taylor: "That will be a really good occasion for the players, they've earnt the right to go and enjoy that so hopefully we do.

"This is an opportunity to be able to play in front of a crowd which at B Team level they very rarely do, they get to play at a decent stadium which again at B Team level you don't do and we'll be playing against a really good opposition with a chance to win a trophy."
