B Team Report | Rotherham United Res 1 Wanderers 3

Will Forrester played for 45 minutes as he made a welcome return to action in helping the B Team make a successful start to their Central League Cup campaign.

The defender played his first competitive football since suffering a serious hamstring injury in early April as the young Whites won their Group A opener.

Conor Lewis struck twice in the first half before Jack Holmes pulled one back for the Millers before the break in a game Wanderers largely dominated and could have won by more.

Forrester played alongside Sam Inwood, who was also on the comeback trail and completed an hour at Rotherham’s training ground as the South Yorkshire club finished their group games with a first loss.

Nathan Broome made a couple of second-half saves to preserve the Whites’ lead before Daeshon Lawrence deservedly wrapped up the points with a third goal to give Andy Taylor’s side the perfect start to their bid to try and win the group and advance to the semi-finals.

Wanderers have group games to come against Stoke City and Wigan Athletic.

B Team: Broome, Hogan, Forrester, Inwood, Mawditt, Sharples, Irwin, Leigh, Ritchie, Lewis, Lawrence. Substitutes: Grayson, Tutte, Sixsmith, Nuttall, Lomax.
