Thelonius Bair hopes his first goal for Wanderers will be just a start as the big striker sets his sights on Wolves.
Bair came off the bench late on in Saturday’s loss to Stoke City and gave the Whites a late glimmer of hope with an injury-time goal.
His fine finish – after earlier forcing Stoke City keeper Viktor Johansson into a smart save – wasn’t enough to avert a 2-1 defeat for Steven Schumacher’s men as they lost for the first time in three games.
But Bair was happy to open his account in English football with his first goal since signing on loan from Auxerre as he continues to settle into life with Wanderers ahead of tomorrow (Tuesday) night’s trip to Molineux.
“The boys have been excellent. I felt at home the first week that I was here. I didn't feel like I had an adaptation period with them. They were excellent and same with the staff, so I feel really happy to be here,” Bair said.
“It’s always great to get off the mark as a striker and hopefully that starts a long run of goals for me. It’s always frustrating to lose at home, especially in that type of game, but we don't have time to talk about it. We’ve got to get back to it on Tuesday.
“We have another opportunity to do better. This is why we play this game. It's for matches like this, so we’re looking forward to it.”
Wanderers go to Wolves for the first time since 2017 before hitting the road again next Saturday for a trip to Southampton.
Both sides have recent Premier League experience, with Wolves currently sitting fifth in the table as they look to bounce straight back to the top-flight.
The Whites will be looking to follow up victory in their last away game at Norwich City ahead of the international break and Bair is hungry to play a part after getting up to speed in the Championship following his arrival at the Toughsheet Community Stadium at the start of last month.
“It's physical. It's quick. It's essentially what I expected from it and I think the more fit, the more rhythm that I get personally, the better it'll be,” the Canada international told Wanderers TV.
“I like scoring goals and I want to score more, so hopefully that's the beginning of something good. You have to be ready to take a chance when you get on the pitch and that's what all of us are here to do, to go and make a difference when you get on the pitch.”
