Bolton Wanderers Football Club urges all supporters to ensure they are in their seats before 2:50pm this Saturday, 8th November, ahead of the League One fixture against Port Vale at the Toughsheet Community Stadium, to ensure they take part in the Act of Remembrance.
The formal Act of Remembrance on the pitch commences before kick off. This year, the reading of the Ode to Remembrance will be delivered by the Vicar of Bolton, Rev Hannah Lane. Following the Ode, Bugler WO2 Nick Burroughs, from the Lancashire Artillery Volunteers Band, will play The Last Post, introducing the minute’s silence. The silence will conclude with Reveille, signalling the return to match preparations.
Wreaths will be laid pitch-side by serving personnel, Sgt Edward Urmson (Royal Signals) and Cpl Jack Thornley (Royal Medical Services Corps). They will lead a large Guard of Honour composed of Standard Bearers Bob Nicholls, John Edwards, Steve Gregory and Glynis Knapman, alongside a wide range of veterans, serving members and club staff.
Honouring Fallen Supporters
The club again welcomes the families of two deeply missed supporters. Kingsman Darren Deady, of the 2nd Battalion, Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment, passed away in 2010. Corporal Jack Stanley, who served with the Queen's Royal Hussars, passed in 2012. Both men were avid Wanderers fans whose lives ended from injuries sustained during active service in Afghanistan.
Darren’s mother, Julie Hall, a co-founder of the Darren Deady Foundation which supports veterans in Westhoughton, will join the Guard of Honour alongside Darren’s brother, Daniel Deady, and niece, Ezmai Deady. Brenda Wilson and Rachel Stanley, the mother and sister of Cpl Jack Stanley, will also be present on the pitch.
Pre-Match Activities
Supporters should note that a separate wreath-laying ceremony, involving representatives from the Bolton Wanderers Supporters Trust, the Bolton Wanderers Disabled Supporters Association and the Bolton Wanderers Youth Advisory Group, will take place at the Nat Lofthouse Statue at approximately 12:45pm. Horwich Air Cadets will also be collecting around the stadium pre-match for the Poppy Appeal.
