Mason Burstow hopes his opening goal is the first of many in a Wanderers’ shirt after announcing his arrival in style.
Burstow capped an impressive performance and a 2-0 win over Plymouth Argyle with his first competitive goal since December.
The on-loan striker made the points safe when he coolly tucked away a cross from Amario Crozier-Duberry and wants to build on that during his season-long stay from Hull City.
“It's lovely to get off the mark, especially at home and early doors as well. Hopefully I keep the momentum going and get a few more,” said Burstow, who has been given the task of leading the Wanderers’ front line in the first two games of the season.
“I've told Amario, Carlos (Mendes Gomes) and Thierry (Gale) as well that I'm going to be in the middle of the sticks and as soon as you get the ball, I'll be there.
“It's a relief. It's lovely to score your first goal for your new club and settles you in even more than you already are. The lads have been good, the staff have been good with me. I'm happy to have scored and hopefully I can get a few more.”
Burstow was given a standing ovation after being substituted 15 minutes from the end of Saturday’s first win of the season against a side relegated from the Championship last season.
It was a near perfect way for Steven Schumacher’s men to launch their campaign at the Toughsheet Community Stadium and Burstow was delighted to deliver the goods for a big home crowd.
“Thank-you to the fans. It's one of those performances that we needed,” the striker added. “They got behind us from the start and if they continue to do that for the rest of the season, we shouldn't have a problem.
“I feel like we were harshly done at Stockport, obviously another good side, and to beat these lot is a statement win for us at home. It's not an easy place to come to and we're going to make it as difficult as we can for any team that comes here.
“We need to stay on top of it and performances like this are one of the reasons why we are favoured in this league. We need to keep showing that and we need to go out there and perform every time we put on the shirt.”
Wanderers are quickly back in action with a home Carabao Cup first-round tie against Sheffield Wednesday on Wednesday night. Tickets are priced just £10 for adults and £5 for concessions and available to buy HERE
