Sam Dalby scored the goal that put Wanderers in front for the first time on Sunday afternoon and afterwards the striker pointed to the quality that turned a seven-goal shootout into three points on the road.
"It was a tough game, to be fair," he said. "We knew they were going to be a good side coming into it. We knew they were going to be really good going forward, but we thought we'd always be able to catch them on the break and we knew we had to be clinical.
"I think that's a big thing for us this season, being more clinical with our chances than we were last season. And today we showed that with four goals."
The numbers back him up. Wanderers arrived on the Norfolk coast having scored seven league goals all season. They added four in ninety minutes.
Mohamed Toure struck inside five minutes. Thierry Gale answered within three. Ruairi McConville headed Norwich back in front on nineteen minutes and Gaizka Larrazabal levelled again just before the interval with his first goal in English football.
For Dalby, the refusal to drop heads was the part worth talking about.
"That's one of the main things we said after the game, just how we pushed through and weren't disappointed once we got pegged back," he said. "And even when we went up and they scored the equaliser, we pushed on, ended up getting a winner, which is obviously massive for us."
A dream start to the second half
Dalby did not wait long after the restart. Kyliane Dong was slipped in, the striker read it and the finish took care of itself.
"I think we had a good passage of play before Dongy got slipped in and I just made a run in behind," he explained. "I saw the keeper coming out and I just thought, if I miss the keeper here then it's a goal. So thankfully I did that."
The half-time instruction
Steven Schumacher's message at the break was short and it was specific. McConville's header had come from a corner.
"More of the same. Probably tidy up on set pieces," Dalby said. "We've been a bit too loose on set pieces this season, which has cost us. So second half, definitely improved on that, I'd say.
"And just to keep going, because we're playing well, and we knew we were going to keep getting chances and just to keep being clinical."
Homework, and a weak foot
Jack Stacey restored parity and the winner came from the bench. Atsuki Ito arrived as a substitute and struck the sort of finish that looks instinctive and turns out to be anything but.
"It was a top finish," Dalby said. "We spoke before the game about where the keeper likes to dive and doesn't really want to dive and that was a spot where Atsuki knew he was going to be successful.
"So to be that clinical when he's just come on, with his weak foot, it was a great goal."
"They were massive for us today"
Wanderers took a full away end to Norfolk for a Sunday fixture roughly 240 miles from home and Dalby made a point of saying so.
"Seeing a packed away end when it's so far away on a Sunday, obviously it means a lot to us and definitely pushes you through that last fifteen minutes when it really is the hard yards," he said. "They were massive for us today."
The conditions made those hard yards harder still.
"I'm not sure how hot it actually was, but it felt pretty hot on the pitch, to be honest, especially first half. So having the fans there pushing you forward the entire time was massive."
Timing is everything
This was Wanderers' first away win of the season and a second victory in a row after the win over Cardiff City. It lifts the side to 15th in the Championship on ten points from eight matches, a long way from where the table looked at the start of the month.
The international break now arrives and Dalby has mixed feelings about it.
"Especially going into the international break, the boys are really happy," he said of the dressing room. "It's obviously massive for us, massive for the fans, so we're all really pleased."
Then, with a smile: "We've got two wins on the bounce now, so probably could do with playing a few extra games. But we'll be looking forward to a bit of a break, recharging the batteries and coming back stronger."
