Wanderers are saddened to hear of the passing of our former player Eric Redrobe at the age of 81.
Redrobe (second from the right on the back row in the 1965/66 team picture above) signed for Wanderers as an amateur in 1961 and became a bustling centre-forward.
He made his debut for the Whites in a First Division fixture at Aston Villa in November 1963, although as an understudy to the prolific Wyn Davies his senior appearances were limited. A regular in the Central League side, Redrobe made four first-team appearances for Wanderers, with his only goal coming at Rotherham in November 1965.
In August 1966 he joined Southport and was a fixture in their side, scoring 55 goals in 192 League games for the Sandgrounders. In 1972, Hereford United paid £6,000 to take him to Edgar Street in what was their inaugural Football League campaign and the striker was part of the Bulls’ team that won two promotions.
Wigan-born Redrobe then dropped into non-league with Bath City before returning to Hereford for a short spell at the end of his career. In 2007 he was chosen as the Southport fans’ all-time favourite player as part of the PFA centenary celebrations and became honorary president of the Southport FC Supporters Trust.
The thoughts of everyone at Wanderers are with Eric's family and friends.
