Evatt | Best 90 Minutes Yet

Team celebration Northampton

Ian Evatt hailed Wanderers’ best 90 minutes of the season as his side made it three wins in a row to move into the top half of the table, writes Pete Oliver.

The Whites were four goals up going into injury time at Northampton Town and despite conceding twice in injury time secured a 4-2 success to continue their recent resurgence.

John McAtee, George Thomason, Eoin Toal and Dion Charles got the goals as Evatt’s men made it four wins from their opening eight games before entertaining Shrewsbury Town on Saturday in their last league game before an international break.

“For 90 minutes it was excellent. It's just the last five minutes that were annoying and disappointing. It probably takes a little bit of gloss off it but I think for 90 minutes that was our best performance of this season,” said the Wanderers’ boss.

“We controlled it from start to finish and it was more like us in possession. We were really dangerous and created lots of chances. The game should have been over, we should have made it five and that was it.

“There was lots to be pleased about but we just re-set and go again. There’s another one to go on Saturday and that’s our mindset. This is parked. We’re done, we refresh, we re-focus, re-energise and get ready for tough game on Saturday.

“It was a step forward. I'm not going to call it a big step, not going to call it a little step, it was just another step forward. We’re focused, we know what we have to do on Saturday and for now it's about parking this and getting ready for that.”

Wanderers were backed by over 600 fans who made their support for Ricardo Almeida Santos clear on a night the former skipper produced another stand-out performance.

And Evatt praised their contribution as the Whites came together to deliver the goods on and off the pitch.

“The quality of our football was there for all to see tonight,” the manager told Wanderers TV. “That was something like back to our fluid best. You can see the players increasing in confidence all the time.

“It was great to see the fans here travelling in awful conditions on a Tuesday night, with the amount of travelling we've done. The support for Rico and the support for the rest of the team was great. We appreciate that so thank-you.”
