Ian Evatt is relishing the prospect of taking on Championship opposition in the second round of the Carabao Cup.
Wanderers will face Middlesbrough in a repeat of the 2004 final, won 2-1 by Boro, when the two sides meet at the Toughsheet Community Stadium at the end of the month.
Evatt’s men set up a visit from Michael Carrick’s side by beating League Two Barrow AFC in round one with the Wanderers’ boss now the one trying to plot an upset and progress further.
“It’s a very good test for where we’re at right now as a football club and a team,” said Evatt.
“It’s an exciting challenge against a team which has been really good at the level above and really consistent.
“They got into the play-offs last year and Michael has had a great start to his managerial career.
“They have a team which has a good reputation of being aesthetically pleasing. It’s a great test for us and a great test for them as well. I hope this place will be rocking and we can go all out to try and cause an upset.
“We’re looking forward to that but there’s a lot of business to take care of in between.”
With the Carabao Cup tie to be played in the week beginning 28 August, Wanderers face four more fixtures in League One first, starting with Saturday’s trip to Cheltenham Town.
The date of the game against Middlesbrough and ticket details will be released in due course.
