Famewo Completes Hat-Trick

Wanderers have made Hull City defender Akin Famewo their third summer signing as they add more Championship experience to their newly-promoted squad.

Famewo joins from the Tigers for an undisclosed fee after playing a part in Hull’s promotion to the Premier League at the end of last season.

The 27-year-old – who has signed a three-year deal with the Whites – made 15 Championship appearances for the Championship play-off winners after signing for City from Sheffield Wednesday in July, 2025.

The left-sided defender had previously spent three years with Wednesday, helping the Owls to promotion from League One in 2023 before clocking up almost 50 Championship games for the South Yorkshire club over the next two seasons.

London-born Famewo also added League One experience with Charlton Athletic during two separate loan spells from Norwich City – where he made a single Premier League appearance in 2020 – after starting his career at Luton Town.

His arrival at the Toughsheet Community Stadium follows the signings of former Rangers and Preston defender Ben Davies and Kilmarnock attacking midfielder David Watson as Wanderers gear up for life back in the second tier under Steven Schumacher.

“I met with the manager and everyone in charge here and speaking about aspirations and what we want to achieve here it was really exciting times,” said Famewo.

“Because they believe in me, and the fact that they said that they're really fond of me and how I play and want me to be more involved than I was last year, that’s something I can never say no to.

“I understand we've got a fairly young squad, but they did amazing last year and I ran into most of them after our promotion when we were leaving the hotel and the fans were all just entering the stadium at Wembley.

“I just hope that I can bring my experience and my calmness to the team and I just want to be able to be a part of it and achieve something great together.”

Famewo got a taste of Wanderers’ backing as he saw the ‘White Wall’ converge on Wembley for May's League One play-off final – 24 hours after Hull had beaten Middlesbrough to seal their place in the top flight.

And the commanding defender is now looking forward to experiencing the support first-hand after becoming the Whites’ latest summer recruit.

“Everyone knows Bolton is a massive club,” Famewo told Wanderers TV. “It's somewhere you want to be as a player, somewhere where it means a lot to the fans and everyone around the area as well.

“You know they drive the success, so, as a player, there's not really much more you can ask for. I'm definitely looking forward to meeting all the fans and seeing everything they bring. I hear it, but experiencing it yourself is different so, yes, I'm really looking forward to it.”
