Wanderers’ ground staff have been named the Sky Bet League One Grounds Team of the Season.
The team – led by Head Groundsman Chris Simm – took the divisional prize for the quality of the playing surface at the Toughsheet Community Stadium during the 2024/25 campaign.
Stockport County and Blackpool were highly commended in the awards, which are based on assessments in each match from the referee and an official from the visiting team.
The clubs with the leading average marks are then visited by specialists from the Sports Turf Research Institute for a further grading.
“We’re delighted to have won the award again,” said Chris, after Wanderers scooped the prize for the first time since 2022.
“It’s been a long season with the usual challenges to face. But we have a great team who work so hard both at the stadium and the training ground.
“Our goal is to produce the best possible playing surface for the team to play on and the award is a fitting reward for everyone’s efforts.”
The divisional winners in the EFL are:
Championship: Watford. Highly commended: Burnley and Middlesbrough.
League One: Bolton Wanderers. Highly commended: Blackpool and Stockport County.
League Two: Accrington Stanley: Highly commended: MK Dons, Notts County, Chesterfield.
