All at Bolton Wanderers are saddened to hear of the passing of former striker Hugh Curran.
Curran, who has died at the age of 82, spent three years with the Whites in the mid-1970s, scoring 13 goals in 50 appearances.
The Scotsman, signed by Jimmy Armfield from Oxford United for £40,000 in September, 1974, scored 11 of those goals in the 1974/75 season to finish as Wanderers’ leading scorer in their Division Two (Championship) campaign.
A powerful centre-forward, Curran left Burnden Park to return to Oxford where he remained a big favourite thanks to 43 goals in 115 appearances before later making a home in the city after injury forced his retirement in 1979.
A former Manchester United junior, Curran also played for Millwall, Norwich City and Wolverhampton Wanderers – scoring at a prolific rate for all three clubs – and was capped five times by Scotland.
Our thoughts are with Hugh’s family and friends.
