Gaizka Larrazabal has enjoyed his first taste of life at Wanderers, with the midfielder using the international break to reflect on his experience of English football so far.
Having made the move to the Whites, 'Larra' has quickly settled into his new surroundings and has been enjoying the challenge of adapting to a different league, a new team and a new environment.
And while there is plenty still to come during his time in England, the recent weeks have already provided some memorable moments – including his first goal in Wanderers colours.
“I have to say it's probably the best goal I've scored for a team,” Gaizka said.
“The way I saw the ball bouncing, I felt like, 'OK, that's going to be mine.' Then hearing our fans was amazing.”
That connection with the supporters is something which has made a particularly strong impression on Larra since arriving at the Toughsheet Stadium.
“I love the fans,” he said. “I have to say that in football, football is not the same without them.
“Our fans are special. The feeling, I can't explain it. This is new for me, so I'm really happy to be here.”
Away from the excitement of matchdays, Gaizka has also been getting to know his new teammates and has been impressed by the togetherness within the Wanderers squad.
The midfielder believes that collective mentality will be important as the season progresses, with the group continuing to work on the small details and develop as a team.
“We have to realise that we are able to beat every team in this league because we are good too,” he explained.
“We just have to believe in ourselves, keep working and improve the small details.”
For Larra, adapting to life in a new country is naturally part of the process, but he has embraced the opportunity and is keen to continue learning.
The international break offers the squad a chance to recharge before returning to work, with the full back keen to maintain the momentum and continue developing alongside his teammates.
“It's going to be great for us to disconnect with our families,” he said.
“But after winning the last game, it's going to give us more confidence for the next games.
“Once we are back at work, we will do what we've been doing and keep improving.”
For now, Larra can reflect on a promising start to his time at Wanderers, with his first goal already providing a special memory.
But with plenty more still to come, the midfielder is focused on continuing to settle in, enjoying his football and building his connection with the club and its supporters.
Wanderers are next in action against Stoke City on Saturday 10th October, 3pm kick off at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.
