The recent derby day victory over Wigan Athletic was a superb occasion for all connected with Bolton Wanderers. A 4-1 result on the pitch provided a memorable afternoon; the atmosphere inside the Toughsheet Community Stadium was electric. Adding to the special nature of the day was the presence of our guest of honour, legendary supporter Derrick Lee, who recently celebrated his 100th birthday. His attendance brought a wonderful sense of history to a significant local fixture.

Before kick-off, Derrick met with Chairman Sharon Brittan, who welcomed him personally. In a warm exchange, Sharon presented Derrick with a personalised, framed Wanderers shirt bearing his name and the number 100 to mark his milestone. Derrick was full of gratitude for his experience.

“I am so grateful to everyone at Bolton Wanderers, from the fans to my friends,” he said.

“Sharon was charming and I had a brilliant day from start to finish. The perfect result made it complete.”

Sharon also commented on the meeting.

“It was an absolute privilege to meet Derrick and his friends. To have supported this club for so long, through all its unique chapters, is extraordinary. His presence was a powerful reminder of what this club means to our town and our community, and it truly humbled me. We are on this journey together and Derrick’s spirit is something that can inspire us all. He represents the very best of the Bolton family.”

Derrick’s support for the Whites now extends beyond eighty years. His journey with the club began at Burnden Park as a young man and has taken him to Wembley for the 1958 FA Cup Final. He has been with us through periods of success and difficulty. His presence on Saturday was a potent reminder of the deep-rooted passion that defines Bolton Wanderers. The performance that followed, full of energy and clinical finishing, was a proper tribute to a man who has given so much of his life to the team.

Let’s get behind the team for every remaining match, fill this stadium with noise and show the same dedication he has shown us for a lifetime.

Together, let’s do it for Derrick.
