Paris Maghoma hopes there’s more success to come after being named as Wanderers’ Young Player of the Year.
Maghoma received the accolade at the Whites’ End of Season Awards to cap a superb season on loan from Brentford.
The midfielder has grown in stature throughout the campaign, with his creativity and eight League One goals playing a big part in the Whites’ promotion push.
And he was honoured to collect the award as Wanderers recognised their top performers of 2023/24.
“I've got to thank the gaffer and the staff and how they have put their arm around my shoulder, helped me in training and in games, giving me feedback all the time,” said Maghoma.
“A lot of the senior players have helped me as well and it's been great. Going off the back of last season I hadn't scored too many.
“Coming here and playing a bit higher up the pitch, working hard in training, trying to do extra finishing and add a bit more composure around the penalty area has paid off.
“I’d like to thank everyone. I'm so happy with the award, but the most important thing is to get promotion and get the whole club back where it should be.”
Wanderers could still secure automatic promotion with a convincing last-day win at Peterborough United on Saturday.
But second-placed Derby County would also need to lose at home to bottom club Carlisle United for that to be a possibility.
Ian Evatt’s men therefore may have to plot their way through the play-offs, with Maghoma ready to embrace the challenge and end his initial 10-month stay on a high.
“I love it here,” added the 22-year-old. “From the first moment I came until now I've loved every single second. It would be great to get promoted with this team.
“It's in our hands. Whether Derby drop points, or whatever, we've got to win football games.
“If it has to be play-offs it's not a bad way to get promoted at Wembley if we can get there. That would be great and either way the main thing is just to get up.
“I've got a big belief in this squad and a big belief in this club. I think we can definitely do it.”
