Wanderers kick-off their 2026/27 campaign when they visit Hillsborough for a Carabao Cup first-round tie away at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday afternoon.
Steven Schumacher's men have been put through their paces during pre-season preparations, which concluded last weekend when Ruben Rodrigues' strike proved decisive in a 1-0 home victory over NAC Breda as attention now turns to a trip to South Yorkshire.
Awaiting Wanderers in the Steel City are Henrik Pedersen's Owls, who swap divisions with the Whites as they return to Sky Bet League One, but now look towards a more positive future under new ownership.
The two sides last met in the Carabao Cup first-round 12 months ago which saw six goals shared in a dramatic 3-3 draw at the Toughsheet Community Stadium, with Wednesday progressing through on penalties.
Press Conferences:
Steven Schumacher: "We can't wait, it's been a good pre-season for us, a shorter one than usual, it's been one that we've enjoyed. The new players who have come in have made a really good impact, the players who we had last season have continued where they left off. We're really looking forward to it and we're ready to go on Saturday at Hillsborough.
"It's a really good game for us because we want to test ourselves against a team who will be a really good team. They were a Championship side last year, they went through a difficult season in difficult circumstances, and we go there knowing it's going to be a tough test. We want to go there and try and progress into the next round of the cup."
Sheffield Wednesday Head Coach, Henrik Pedersen: "We treat this as a game we want to win, it is the first game we play at Hillsborough, and we want to show off our best side. And of course, we are playing for it. “
