Match Preview | Wanderers v Barnsley (Play-Off Second Leg)

Preview

Following a 3-1 away win on Friday night, Wanderers take a two goal advantage into the Play-Off Semi Final Second Leg at the Toughsheet Community Stadium tonight.

A brace from Dion Charles and a last gasp Randell Williams goal gives Ian Evatt’s men full control at half time in the tie. A repeat performance would be enough for Wanderers to take another step towards the overall aim.

Manager quotes

Ian Evatt: “We've got a job to do and we know exactly what we need to do. The players are really hungry, in fact almost ravenous in that they want to succeed and do really well.

“But we know it's going to be a tough game, because Barnsley are a good team. And nothing would be achieved tonight, apart from a next step forward. We're not looking beyond that, we're not looking ahead to what might be.

“All we're focused on is performing well and getting this place absolutely bouncing and we can do that through a really good performance and showing real good intent and good energy.

“Our mindset is very much win tonight, not rest on what we've done already. It's about what's ahead of us and playing well and getting the victory that we need.”

Team News

Ian Evatt will have the same group of players ready for selection and ready to go again on Tuesday night with everyone returning from Oakwell unscathed.

Victor Adeboyejo made a ten minute cameo after his spell on the sidelines, giving Wanderers even more firepower options if needed.

Form Guide

Both fixtures in the regular season between both sides resulted in draws. A 1-1 draw at the Toughsheet Community Stadium before Wanderers fought back from two down at Oakwell in March.

In the First Leg on Friday night, Wanderers were in the driving seat for large spells of the game but Barnsley did show what they are capable of after halving the deficit in the second half and piling on the pressure. Nathan Baxter made a couple of vital saves to keep Wanderers ahead before Randell Williams’ corner went all the way in to keep the Whites’ two goal cushion.
