Match Preview | Wanderers v Huddersfield (Emirates FA Cup)

preview

The Emirates FA Cup takes centre stage for Wanderers this weekend when Huddersfield Town are the visitors to the Toughsheet Community Stadium for a first-round tie.

It is the start of another cup campaign for Steven Schumacher’s buoyant Whites following back-to-back victories in Sky Bet League One against Lee Grant’s Terriers and Cardiff City.

Huddersfield make the journey across the Pennines from West Yorkshire looking to return to winning ways after four straight defeats in all competitions.

Wanderers secured a dramatic comeback win away from home when the two teams met in October, with Sam Dalby and Amario Cozier-Duberry scoring deep into stoppage time in an unforgettable 2-1 triumph at the Accu Stadium.

Press Conferences

Steven Schumacher: “It’s against an opponent who are really good as we know, we only played them a few weeks ago so it will be a tough game, we want to try to keep the momentum and confidence going, keeping standards high is important in football.

"If you can keep winning games and ticking off results and putting in performances, that confidence just grows and you get better as a team, so that will be the message on Saturday, do the right things and try and win the game.

“The atmosphere has been good, especially over the last two results, we want that to continue and what better way to do that then by winning another game against a League One rival in a cup competition that everyone loves, so it’s trying to keep that positivity going and see where it takes us.”

Huddersfield Town Manager Lee Grant: "Yes, we need to win a game, by hook or by crook. But at the same time, come on, let's play with our belief and energy and confidence and personality. I'd love to see that.

"We saw that in the first period at Wycombe - courage, belief, personality. Let's see it for 90 plus minutes now at Bolton this weekend.”

Team News

Steven Schumacher has hinted at rotating his side and giving opportunities across the squad for this weekend's clash with some players in the camp having played nearly every minute so far this season.

Huddersfield Town will be without Leo Castledine who suffered a shoulder injury last time out. Jack Whatmough and Lee Evans will also be unavailable for the Terriers.
