MATCH PREVIEW | Wanderers v Rotherham United

Rotherham home preview

It’s a quick homecoming for the Whites as they look to make it two wins in four days at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.

Steven Schumacher’s men will also be hoping to complete a hat-trick of League One wins to stay in the top six with five games to go after the visit of the Millers.

Rotherham are a revitalised outfit, however, since Matt Hamshaw took over as interim boss.

The South Yorkshire side won at Northampton and on Saturday beat in-form Blackpool to make it two wins out of two since Rotherham-born Hamshaw replaced Steve Evans in the dug-out.

Press Conference

Steven Schumacher: "It's our game in hand. It's a game that we want to try and make the most of and try and use that to our advantage. It's also another game that we know is going to be really difficult. Rotherham in the last two games have had two wins and changed their manager and they've had the look of being re-energised.

"They won away at Northampton and then they won at home by beating Blackpool, who were really strong, at the weekend and scored late. So they'll come into it full of confidence and full of energy.

"How they approach the game, I'm not sure. But we just need to make sure that we approach the game in the way that we want to. (3:15) We want to be positive and play forwards a little bit more and play a bit quicker with a bit more urgency.

"We'll give it our best shot and try and cause them as many problems as we can and find a way to win another game of football, which at this stage, as we know, is so important."

Team News

Wanderers will be without Will Forrester after he sustained a hamstring injury in Saturday’s win over Bristol Rovers. The defender has undergone a scan to assess the full extent of the damage and could be out for a number of weeks.

Szabi Schön and Eoin Toal are also still sidelined but Steven Shumacher expects them to be back before the end of the season and fit-again central defender Ricardo Almeida Santos is putting himself in the frame for potential selection.

Rotherham have picked the same starting XI for their first two games under Matt Hamshaw (above) and are still expected to be missing a number of their squad for the trip to the Toughsheet Community Stadium.

Sean Raggett, Zac Jules, Alex MacDonald, Shaun McWilliams and Andre Green are all likely to be sidelined with on-going injury problems.

But the Millers are not short of firepower and striker Josh Kayode could be fit to return to the mix after missing the last three games with a calf injury.

Form Guide

Wanderers arrested a run of three straight defeats with successive 1-0 wins over Wigan and Bristol Rovers.

The Whites have now won seven and drawn one of their 12 league games under Steven Schumacher to sit sixth in the table. Victory over Rotherham would put Schumacher’s men four points behind fifth-placed Charlton Athletic on level games.

Rotherham have climbed to 14th place in the table on the back of successive wins under interim boss Matt Hamshaw. The Millers - who beat Wanderers 3-1 in the reverse fixture in January - had won only two of their previous 11 games under Steve Evans before he was shown the door last month.
