Goalkeeper Jack Bonham starred in goal as Wanderers earned a valuable point in a goalless draw away at Queens Park Rangers on Saturday afternoon to continue their unbeaten start to the Sky Bet Championship season.
Bonham made several important saves in both halves as Wanderers, backed by a sold-out away end at Loftus Road, battled to a point in West London.
Head Coach Steven Schumacher made one change from his side's opening day home victory against Preston North End last weekend, with Lewis Brunt coming in for Luca Stephenson in defence to make his first league start in Wanderers colours.
Early on in the capital, Bonham was called into action twice in quick succession. Firstly, the Wanderers goalkeeper kept out Kwame Poku's curling effort after the midfielder cut inside from the right, before his fingertip save tipped Harvey Vale's strike from just outside the box, as Julien Stephan's Hoops looked for an opener on a sun-kissed afternoon.
Wanderers created their first opening at goal inside nine minutes, which saw Gaizka Larrazabal volley right-footed over Pierce Charles' crossbar from Chris Forino's pass.
Bonham was tested again when play dropped to Vale in a dangerous position on the edge of the box, a strike which the Whites' number one managed to gather. The Whites stopper then had to thwart Richard Kone's left-footed attempt in the box having profited from Ilias Chair's build-up play.
Midway through the half, Bonham produced an outstanding save to deny Kone from point-blank range with his feet following Chair's cross. Minutes later, Kone was denied again after Bonham's strong right-hand kept out the forward in a one-on-one situation.
Towards the end of the first-half, Thierry Gale delivered an inviting cross aimed at the back post which Larrazabal met, but the Spaniard's attempt went into Charles' side-netting.
Ahead of the second-half, Schumacher was forced into a substitution, as Ben Davies replaced Akin Famewo at the back.
The Hoops attacked in the early minutes after the restart, as Brunt did well to throw himself in the way of Kealey Adamson's right-footed shot, which the deflection looping over Bonham's crossbar, with the Whites defending the resulting set-piece.
Positive build-up play from John McAtee set Larrazabal free down the right, but his cross evaded everyone in the box, with Gale unable to connect at the back post.
At the other end, claims for a QPR penalty were waved away by referee Edward Duckworth when Koki Saito went down, as Chair's snapshot inside the box was blocked and cleared behind for a corner by Forino.
The hosts had another chance at goal, with Vale's close-range header from Kone's flick straight at Bonham.
Wanderers made two further changes, as Iling-Junior and Ryan Hardie were introduced in place of McAtee and Gale on 58 minutes.
On the hour mark, Bonham produced another excellent save, denying Vale's header which was destined for the bottom right-corner, from Chair's cross.
Kyliane Dong was next to enter the field of play from the Wanderers bench, as he replaced Larrazabal for the closing stages.
Wanderers survived a scare in the final 25 minutes of action, as Vale's cross following a set-piece found Jimmy Dunne in the box, who struck just wide of Bonham's bottom left post.
With eight minutes of normal time to play, Sam Dalby teed up Dong in the box, but his right-footed shot was blocked.
Late on, Bonham made another great save to thwart Paul Smyth, standing up tall to keep the Northern Irishman's attempt out. Wanderers navigated the four minutes of additional time to pick up their first away point since promotion back to the second-tier with a resolute performance in the capital.
