Luke Matheson has today joined League of Ireland Premier Division side Bohemians on loan.
The Whites’ defender signed for the Dublin-based club ahead of the league’s transfer deadline on Thursday and will stay with the 11-time League of Ireland champions until June.
The move will allow Matheson to play competitive, first-team football before returning to Wanderers ahead of pre-season for the 2024/25 campaign.
Former Rochdale and Wolves full-back or wing-back Matheson joined Wanderers last summer after leaving Molineux.
The 21-year-old started out in the Whites’ B Team squad as he re-built his fitness following an injury-hit spell at Wolves.
Matheson has since made five appearances in cup competitions in the Wanderers' senior side and after graduating to the first-team squad was rewarded with a new contract running until June, 2025 by boss Ian Evatt.
The loan signing of Liverpool’s Calvin Ramsay during the January transfer window has since added to Wanderers’ options on the right-hand side of their defence, allowing Matheson to make the switch to Ireland to further build up his first-team experience.
Bohemians, who finished sixth in the Irish top-flight last season, started their new league campaign with a 2-2 draw against Sligo Rovers last Friday night and play at St Patrick’s Athletic – who beat them in the 2023 final of the FAI Cup – tomorrow night.
