Wanderers head to Fleetwood Town for their latest pre-season work-out after a successful open training session in front of the fans.
Steven Schumacher put his squad through their paces in front of more than 1,000 supporters at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.
The session gave supporters a chance to watch the players close-up in drills and small-sided games before a signing session in the club shop.
Fans got a first glimpse of new arrival Gaizka Larrazabal – along with the Whites’ other summer recruits – although those heading to the Highbury Stadium tomorrow (Tuesday) night won't see the full-back in match action just yet following the Spaniard’s signing from Portuguese football last week.
“He’s done no pre-season really,” said Schumacher. “He's been doing his own stuff with personal trainers and grass sessions with coaches and whatever but no real group sessions.
“We'll just get him going this week. What we don't want to do is rush things with him, because we don't want him to pick up an unnecessary injury.
“He's a good player, who gives us real competition in that right-back position. He's an attack-minded type of full-back who scored some good goals last year. He's got some good numbers from an assist point of view as well, so he's a good addition to our squad.”
Boss Schumacher will lead the Whites into their fourth warm-up game of pre-season as one of a handful of former Fleetwood players and staff in the Wanderers’ camp.
Recently appointed assistant coach Rob Kelly and goalkeeping coach Owain Fôn Williams previously worked for the Cods, while defender Ben Davies, midfielder Xavier Simons (both on loan) and goalkeeper David Harrington all played for Town.
They will be looking to help Wanderers build on Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Everton and a 3-1 win at Oldham Athletic a week ago before the Whites play their final public friendly at home to Dutch side NAC Breda on Saturday.
Fleetwood have so far beaten Bamber Bridge, Chester FC, Southport and Huddersfield Town as they prepare for a third successive season in League Two following a 15th-place finish last term.
