Report | Lincoln City 1 Wanderers 1

Eoin Toal Lincoln

Sam Dalby's header cancelled out Jack Moylan's first half strike to earn a point to Wanderers who keep the gap to the Imps at six points.

The hosts came inches from taking an early lead. Jack Moylan, inside two minutes, got past George Johnston in the area and struck a fierce effort onto the crossbar to give Wanderers an early scare.

Following that chance however, the Whites grew into the game. On the quarter hour mark Sam Dalby tested George Wickens with a strike from close range but from a tight angle the forward couldn’t get it past the Lincoln number one who parried the ball away.

But Lincoln struck on 26 minutes and it was Moylan who calmly side footed a looping ball from Adam Reach on the left into the bottom left corner to give the home side a one goal advantage.

With 38 minutes on the clock the Whites looked to respond through Kyle Dempsey. A quick throw saw the ball fall to the midfielder who had time on the edge of the area and tried to catch Wickens out at the near post but his shot went wide hitting the side netting.

From the goal kick, the Imps went down the other end and looked for a second. Rob Street looked to curl one into the far corner from outside of the box but it was comfortable for Jack Bonham to claim.

In stoppage time of the first-half, Dempsey got away from his man on the left rank and ran into the box. He managed to get a cross to the far post which was deflected and fell to Rob Apter kindly, but the winger did not get the connection he wanted and it rolled wide.

Moylan had the final chance of the half when he raced away on goal trying to beat Bonham for the second time but his effort was straight down the middle and was claimed by the Bolton number one.

John McAtee had the first opportunity of the second-half. A looped ball came over the forward’s shoulder as he struck it first time but the ball skewed off his foot and wide of the goal.

Another opportunity for Lincoln following their first corner of the game on 56 minutes. The original ball was cleared only as far Reach who volleyed towards goal but saw his strike go over the bar by some distance.

A frantic few minutes for Wanderers as the Imps looked to double their lead as the game headed into the final 15 minutes. Bonham was forced into saves from both Street then Freddie Draper. Seconds later Draper went close again from inside the area but could only hit the post.

Wanderers were in need of a equaliser inside the final ten minutes and who better than the man in form Sam Dalby with four in his last three games. The second phase of a corner saw Ethan Erhahon, the former Lincoln man, put a beautiful curling ball to the back post where Dalby rose highest to head home past Wickens.
