The Whites are defeated at the Weston Homes Stadium. Sam Dalby netted after coming off the bench but goals from Jimmy-Jay Morgan, Matthew Garbett and Kyrell Lisbie were the difference for Posh this afternoon.
Thierry Gale came back into the side and had a couple of opportunities in the first ten minutes. The winger got the ball onto his right foot on the left just outside the area but unfortunately both efforts went over the Peterborough bar.
On 21 minutes Archie Collins was urged to shoot by the home support around 25-yards-out. The midfielder aimed for the top right corner but it was a comfortable save for Tyler Miller.
Seven minutes later, Skipper Eoin Toal met a Josh Sheehan corner but couldn’t keep his header down as it went over Alex Bass’ crossbar.
Wanderers went behind just after the half-hour mark. A long ball forward was flicked on into the path of Jimmy-Jay Morgan who ran through on goal and slotted the ball underneath Miller to give Posh the opening goal.
A chance for the Whites just before the break as Ethan Erhahon intercepted a clearance from Bass. The ball fell to Kyle Dempsey who played in Gale but again his shot went over the bar.
Brandon Khela tried his luck from long range shortly afterwards but it was no trouble for Miller.
First half changes were made by Steven Schumacher. Sheehan and Gale were replaced by Cyrus Christie and Sam Dalby.
The hosts looked to double their lead early in the second half as Kyrell Lisbie took aim towards the near post on the left inside the area. But the forward miss hit the effort as it flew wide of goal.
Khela was denied on 53 minutes through a tremendous save from Miller. The ball landed kindly for him following a headed clearance by Toal. Khela met the ball well and hammered in an effort but a strong hand from Miller kept it at 1-0.
But that scoreline was short lived as Posh made it two just moments later. Matthew Garbett cut inside from the right in the area and curled the ball into the bottom left corner beating Miller and putting Posh in a commanding position.
Wanderers answered back ten minutes later. A teasing cross towards the front post from Max Conway was met by Sam Dalby who smashed it into the top corner.
But Peterborough went straight up the other end and regained their two-goal lead. Lisbie weaved his way past multiple Wanderers defenders in the box and beat Miller at his near post to make it 3-1.
The game really opened up and the Whites could have halved the deficit once more. Mason Burstow was played in on goal, one-on-one with Bass, but couldn’t put his effort on target.
