Swindon Report

A heavy defeat to League Two opposition see's Wanderers' FA Cup journey come to an end.

The hosts started the better with an early chance inside two minutes. Joe Snowdon got on the end of a through ball in the area and tested Tyler Miller with a low shot but the American got down well to save the effort.

But that was the warning sign as just six minutes later Wanderers conceded a penalty. A Whites handball was spotted in the area following a short corner which was played into the box. Aaron Drinan stepped up and sent Miller the wrong way to give Swindon the lead.

Amario Cozier-Duberry came close to finding the equaliser on 25 minutes. He looked to curl a low strike round Connor Ripley but the keeper did well to palm it away for a corner. That corner was played short to Josh Sheehan who tried his luck from distance and saw his effort crash against the crossbar and bounce away from danger.

On the half-hour mark Billy Bodin missed a huge opportunity to make it 2-0. Captain Eoin Toal played a pass across his own goal mouth which was intercepted by Bodin around ten-yards-out but the forward somehow put his shot well wide of Miller’s goal.

Wanderers had a couple of chances just before the break. Thierry Gale almost produced a screamer as he aimed a strike towards the top right-hand corner but Ripley did well to tip the ball over the bar. From the following corner the cross was initially cleared. The ball was put back in towards Joel Randall but his header was comfortable for Ripley to save.

The hosts should have made it two in the first-half stoppage-time. Bodin was one-on-one with Miller but managed to put his effort over the bar by some distance.

Early in the second half Gale showed some real pace down the left to beat his man. He ran into the area and looked to drive a shot into the far corner but it just went wide.

Despite the early chance for Wanderers it was Swindon who found the next goal. Snowdon fired a shot across goal and past Miller from inside the area to double Town’s lead on 55 minutes.

Bodin looked to make it three with an acrobatic effort 20 minutes from time but it had too much on it as it flew over the bar.

The hosts got a third on 75 minutes with Drinan getting his brace as he headed home an in-swinging corner.

In the closing stages Gavin Kilkenny hit one low from around 20-yards but Miller saved it comfortably.

The hosts found a fourth as Drinan completed his hat-trick. The forward spotted Miller off his line and lobbed the Wanderers keeper from distance.
