Wanderers have made another successful move into the transfer market ahead of their Championship return with the permanent signing of Wrexham defender Lewis Brunt.
The 25-year-old arrives for an undisclosed fee and has signed a four-year deal with the Whites to become Wanderers’ eighth summer signing.
The highly-regarded Brunt started his career in the youth set-up at Aston Villa and made two Premier League appearances for Leicester City following a move to the Foxes in August, 2021 before joining Wrexham in July, 2024.
The central defender helped the Welshmen win promotion from League One in his first season at the Racecourse Ground following another promotion success in League Two on loan at Mansfield Town 12 months earlier.
Brunt then kicked off the 2025/26 Championship campaign in Wrexham’s starting line-up before being named again in their 25-man EFL squad in January after recovering from injury.
The Midlander arrives on the back of a fully active pre-season campaign and looking to accelerate his career again at Wanderers with a long-term deal which will see him strengthen the Whites’ defensive options for the foreseeable future as a high-quality addition to Steven Schumacher’s squad.
“You only have to drive past the ground and you can see the size of it all. I think there’ll be 26-27,000 here this weekend, so the size of the club is massive and that's obviously a huge pull,” said Brunt, who will bring added pace and composure to Wanderers’ back line with the versatility to play in a couple of different positions if required.
“The club's back into the Championship and I want to try to continue playing in this league and showcase my ability. It’s been a bit of a whirlwind career so far. I was fortunate to play in the Premier League for Leicester City, had a great year at Mansfield on loan in League Two and then made the step to Wrexham in League One and we won that.
“Last season was a little bit of a stop-start for me but hopefully I can kick on now this season. Stepping up from League One to the Championship is a big step up but if I can come into the building and try and help the lads and help the team then that's what I'll do.
“It’s going to be a challenge but it's one I'm sure the group, the staff, the team are all looking forward to and hopefully we can make it a positive season.”
Brunt’s arrival follows yesterday’s loan signing of former Wrexham team-mate Ryan Hardie as he follows wideman Gaizka Larrazabal, midfielder David Watson, defenders Ben Davies, Akin Famewo and Luca Stephenson and winger Kyliane Dong in joining the Whites since promotion from League One.
