Steven Schumacher believes Wanderers are capable of getting points anywhere as they look to continue their impressive away run.
The Whites go to Charlton Athletic tomorrow (Tuesday) night after taking seven points from the last nine available on the road.
That return includes positive results at two of the sides currently in the top five of the Championship and despite last Saturday’s home loss to Bristol City – which made it three successive home defeats for Schumacher’s men – the Whites’ boss insists his team is performing well enough to approach all games in a positive frame of mind.
“We're confident that we can get points home or away,” said Schumacher. “It doesn't really matter where it is, as long as we play well and we commit to what we're trying to do for the whole game and try hard not to make mistakes.
“But you're right, winning at Norwich, winning at Wolves and getting a point at Southampton should give you belief in the messages that we’re saying. The players have proved already this season that they're giving 100 per cent effort. If we can just concentrate and cut out the errors, then we will continue to pick up points.
“We've come up short in a number of games that we would have liked to have taken points in but there's a load of good signs. I'd be worried and concerned if we weren't playing well, if we weren't creating chances and if we didn't feel as though we had a chance to win games. Then we would probably look at ‘do we need to try and do something different?’
“But in every game that we've played, apart from the Middlesbrough game, we've been in with a chance to win it. So, if we can say that throughout the next 14 games or whatever, we'll be in a good position and hopefully we'll get a few more points on the board.”
Wanderers are currently 19th in the table, level on points with Charlton who sit a place below the Whites after failing to win since August and suffering three defeats in a row after Saturday’s 3-0 loss at league leaders Middlesbrough.
Having kicked off the campaign with three straight league wins, Nathan Jones’ side are currently on a 10-match winless run, although only one of the Addicks’ five defeats in that stretch has come at The Valley.
“They're not in brilliant form at the minute and they’re trying to find a way to turn that form around,” added Schumacher, who then oversees a trip to struggling Derby County on Friday night in a big week for the Whites.
“I went and watched their game against Norwich a couple of weeks ago and listened to what Nathan had to say about how they built their success last season on how to stay up through being really hard to play against and difficult to beat and he wants to try and get back to that now.
“That's not easy going to Middlesbrough, who I think are the best footballing team in the league, and they had another difficult result. But he will be trying to put that back and will see us as an opportunity to get back on track and to turn their momentum around. We have to do our best not to allow that to happen.”
Wanderers have no fresh injury concerns, with defenders Chris Forino and Ben Davies both expected to be available after being forced to come off in the last-gasp defeat to Bristol City.
However, the Whites could still be without six senior players through injury as they look to climb the table ahead of the up-coming international break.
