Schumacher | Every Point Going To Be Crucial

Schumacher touchline Rotherham

Steven Schumacher insists there can be no letting up as Wanderers resume their top-six tussle on Tuesday night.

The Whites face Doncaster Rovers at the Toughsheet Community Stadium on the back of a 12-game unbeaten run.

A fourth draw in six games at Rotherham United last Saturday has taken the automatic promotion further from view but Schumacher won’t let his players take their eye of the ball inside the play-off zone in a final home fixture before Easter Monday.

“There's nine games to go and every point is going to be crucial, so we want to make sure that we focus and get after the game as best as we can in every single one,” said the Whites’ head coach, whose side sits 11 points behind second spot and nine clear of Stockport County in seventh place.

“We know we're coming up against an opponent who are fighting for their lives, similar to what Rotherham were on Saturday, and they're also coming here in decent form.

“They've had a good result against Luton mid-week last week and one at the weekend against Blackpool, so they'll come here with a bit of momentum and I'm sure Grant (McCann) will have them motivated to try and do a job.”

Four points in their last two games – including a big win over fellow strugglers Blackpool last Saturday – have kept Rovers clear of the League One drop-zone.

Schumacher admits his side must play better than New Year’s Day when the teams shared the points in a 1-1 draw in South Yorkshire.

A total of 14 draws – the most in the division – have handicapped Wanderers’ promotion push but Schumacher believes there is still plenty to be upbeat about as they still aim for a big finish to the season.

“There’s loads of positives to take from what we're doing,” he added. “Twelve games unbeaten is no mean feat. I think it's only Lincoln who are currently on a better run than us for unbeaten, so that's a positive.

“We scored another goal on Saturday from a set-play, which is great and Chris Forino gets his first goal of the season which has been a long time coming.

“We created a number of opportunities, we had a huge impact from lads who came off the bench and Sam Dalby keeps his record going. He's in great form and his goal takes him to 12 for the season, so there's loads of positives to take from it.

“But we have to move forward and keep trying to improve if we can.”

Schumacher confirmed that Corey Blackett-Taylor will miss only Doncaster’s third visit to Wanderers since a 1-0 win in May, 1987 contributed to the Whites’ relegation to the bottom division.

The winger today (Monday) underwent a scan on the upper thigh injury he sustained at Rotherham but captain Eoin Toal could come back into contention.

The defender, named in the Northern Ireland squad for their World Cup play-off in Italy later this month, has returned to training since missing Saturday’s draw at the New York Stadium with an ankle injury and may figure if suffering no reaction.
