Wanderers Head Coach Steven Schumacher has challenged his side to build on their opening day victory when the Whites are in action away at Queens Park Rangers on Saturday afternoon.
Following last weekend's winning start to the Sky Bet Championship season, which saw goals from Sam Dalby and Thierry Gale secure a 2-1 victory at a sold-out Toughsheet Community Stadium against Preston North End, Wanderers' first away fixture of the league campaign will take them to Loftus Road.
Awaiting Wanderers are Julien Stéphan's Hoops, who also started their campaign with three points in a 3-1 triumph at Portsmouth, and Schumacher is anticipating a "tough test" in the capital.
Schumacher told Wanderers TV: “It was a good result for us. Obviously important to try and get your first three points on the board in the Championship and thankfully managed to do that in game week one at home here, in what was a really good atmosphere, sold‑out crowd against the local rivals, so it was a really positive day, and the spirit in the camp all week's been really good.
"The challenge is to make sure you review and analyse what went on Saturday and then quickly get prepared for the next game. We know going down to QPR is going to be a tough test. It's always a good atmosphere at Loftus Road. They also had a really good win on Saturday away at Portsmouth, so it'll be a big game for us.
"You've got to keep trying to improve. I felt we played really well on Saturday but there were still elements of the game and the performance that allowed the game to become a little bit closer than what it needed to be, so there's loads for us to learn and improve on, and as you say, keep trying to raise the bar, raise the standard, because that's what it's going to require in this league. You have to be at it in every single league game, because for spells of the game when you're not at it, there's quality in the division that can punish you.
"It'll certainly be a good game of football because they play really nice stuff as well. They pass the ball well through the lines, they're really well organised, they've got some good players, in particular at the top end of the pitch. We have to make sure defensively we're really well structured, we've got good pressure and good intensity against the ball if we can. And yes, I'm sure it'll be a decent game, and they'll be up for it as much as we will. As I said, they had a great result away at Portsmouth at the weekend with a big win, so they'll be going into it confident, as we are.
"They played in the (Carabao) Cup as well at home to Millwall, so their fans have seen them this season effectively at home. But as I say, it's their first league game and the atmosphere will be good, so we have to make sure we're ready for that. We prepare for it, think about what it's going to take for us, certainly early in the game, to get through those first 10–15 minutes of pressure I'm sure we'll come under, and try and impose ourselves then on the game if we can.
"Even more so that we've had a positive result at home. Can we back it up? Can we go and get another positive result in the next game? If we can go and get a big away performance, give our away fans something to cheer about, then we'll say it's been a really good start if we can come home with something from the game."
Wanderers will be cheered on by a sold-out away allocation at Loftus Road, with the boss hoping his players can deliver a good performance on their travels for the travelling supporters.
Schumacher added: "I'm sure they'll enjoy the occasion, it's the first away game in the Championship for so long. They'll enjoy travelling down there, right in central London. Easy enough to get to and from, and hopefully we can put a good performance on for them and try and bring something back up north if we can."
