Wanderers Head Coach Steven Schumacher is up for the challenge when his side visit Peterborough United in Sky Bet League One on Saturday afternoon.
The Whites are back in action at London Road this weekend, aiming to return to winning ways in Cambridgeshire against Luke Williams’ Posh.
Previewing the fixture, Schumacher told Wanderers TV: “We gave the players a couple days off after Sunday, we felt that was important to reset and to try and freshen up mentally as much as physically, but the mood is actually really good, the lads are in good spirits, we’ve gone through the information on Peterborough and everyone is clear on what’s coming, so it’s been a pretty good few days.
“I’m looking forward to it, it will be a different game for us to what we’ve planned against recently, they are a team in really good form since Luke Williams has gone in, he’s got them playing really well, it looks like they are playing with confidence and I thought when Peterborough came to us earlier in the season, they were really good and played well on the day against us, that was under Darren Ferguson, but since Luke has gone in, the results have changed.
“They open the pitch up, they are expansive, they pass the ball around really well, so it’s a different test for us so it’s a good challenge and we’re really looking forward to it.
“We have to defend, first and foremost because if we don’t get that part of it right, they will score and we have to then do more than score one to win, so we have to make sure that we are organised and defensively solid but also continue to play the way we like to play.
“We haven’t taken enough points away from home, only having two wins is not enough if you want to get promoted, so Saturday gives us a chance to try and put that right, our home form thankfully has been excellent, to only lose one in the first half of the season at home was good, so we’re pleased with how we’ve played at home but we do need to take more points away from home and Saturday is a good way to start.”
With a busy January coming up, which will see Wanderers in action a further seven times, Schumacher is looking forward to Saturday’s clash.
He added: “It’s the next challenge, we’ve got a busy January and a busy few weeks with some really big games, but Saturday is the most important one, so we’ll look forward to that.”
