Schumacher | It's A Positive Point

Scoreboard Bradford

Steven Schumacher felt Wanderers picked up a positive point from another unbeaten home game as top spot in League One proved just beyond their grasp.

A ninth successive win at the Toughsheet Community Stadium would have taken the Whites past Bradford City, Lincoln City and Stockport County to the head of the table.

Instead, the points were shared from a lively 0-0 draw but Schumacher had no complaints after again seeing his side give everything and remaining well-placed in the top six in front of Wanderers’ biggest attendance since dropping out of the Premier League in 2011.

“I thought it was two good teams which went right at it like we expected,” said the Whites’ head coach. “I felt we probably edged the first half, had the majority of the shots and we missed a couple of big chances and then the second half was probably more even.

“It could have gone either way at the very end but it's another good point. It's a positive point and if you can't win, don't lose. We've been pretty clinical here of late and today we missed a couple of big chances and probably turned down a couple of chances to shoot as well where the ball just didn't sit right.

“You get days like that, but what I was really pleased with is that we kept going. We’ve had 10 shots, I think, in the first half, nine in the second and probably didn't make the goalie work enough, but that's probably down to Bradford as well.

“They've got loads of bodies behind the ball, got good blocks in, and made it a difficult game. It looked like two teams at the top end of the division. It was a good game and for a 0-0 an exciting game. I'm pleased with everyone because it's another good point. It keeps that unbeaten run here going and we look forward to next week's game now.”

Wanderers – who are at Luton and Mansfield in their next two league games – haven’t lost at home this season with a third successive clean sheet at the Toughsheet Community Stadium preserving that record in front of a gate of 26,473, including 5,077 from West Yorkshire.

“Teddy again made a couple of important saves, one really late on which is a really good save because the centre-forward just nicks across the front post and he's there and blocks it and then Toally makes a great block,” Schumacher added.

“And that’s what sometimes you need to do, put your body on the line, and I think everyone in the stadium could see that the players give everything today, 100 per cent effort with some good quality. We just missed that final bit at the end but that's okay, we can accept that.

“The atmosphere was great. Both sets of fans played their part and these are the type of games that we want. We’re going to have other big teams come here and bring a big crowd.

“Our fans were excellent again, so that's what we need because it's going to be an exciting run-in and the league is really tight. I just had a little glance at the table and it's dead tight, so if we can keep our home form going, stick to the momentum that we've got and keep that behind us then we're in with a chance, like a few other teams are.”
