Wanderers Head Coach Steven Schumacher wants to see his side take the momentum from recent victories into Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup first-round home tie against Huddersfield Town.
The Whites welcome Lee Grant’s Terriers to the Toughsheet Community Stadium, aiming to make it three wins in a row in all competitions following triumphs over this weekend’s opponents and Cardiff City.
Previewing the cup clash, Schumacher hopes to see his players continue their winning form.
Schumacher told Wanderers TV: “They (the players) are more energised because we got a really good result from what was a tough game, the standard of the training has been really good, the mood and the energy around the building is really good and we want to take that momentum into this week’s game.
“It’s against an opponent who are really good as we know, we only played them a few weeks ago so it will be a tough game, we want to try to keep the momentum and confidence going, keeping standards high is important in football.
"If you can keep winning games and ticking off results and putting in performances, that confidence just grows and you get better as a team, so that will be the message on Saturday, do the right things and try and win the game.
“They are a good team, we got the result there in the league fixture a couple of weeks ago, but that’s gone now, they will be thinking exactly the same, they are in a period of form themselves where they need a performance and need a result, so they will come here fully intent to try and get on the front foot and cause us problems, which we expect, we expect a tough game and we want to get to the next round.
“You can’t take your focus off what’s in front of you and what’s next, but the FA Cup is a brilliant competition, I always loved playing in it as a player, I’ve loved it as a manager, I’ve had a couple of good experiences so we’re looking forward to it, it’s a great competition and we want to try and be in the hat for the next round.“
Schumacher believes that Saturday’s tie represents a good opportunity for his players to keep the momentum going.
He added: “It’s important for the players, there will be opportunities for some people to play as well, I’ll make a couple of changes to the team because I think it’s important that people play and get ready for when they are called upon in the league, but our squad is really strong and whoever we choose to pick, there shouldn’t be a drop off in the level, so we are looking forward to it, get out there, play well and try and get yourselves in the next round of a cup game.
“The atmosphere has been good, especially over the last two results, we want that to continue and what better way to do that then by winning another game against a League One rival in a cup competition that everyone loves, so it’s trying to keep that positivity going and see where it takes us.”
