Schumacher | One And Only Wanderers

Schumacher celebration Wolves

Steven Schumacher hailed a brilliant night for the Whites as his men came out on top in the battle of the Wanderers.

A magnificent 3-1 victory at Wolves made it back-to-back away wins and three wins out of four for Schumacher’s side as they bounced back superbly from Saturday’s set-back against Stoke City.

Goals from Atsuki Ito and Sam Dalby either side of a match-winning save from Gavin Bazunu were followed by a wonder strike from Josh Sheehan as Wanderers became the first team to win at Molineux since Wolves dropped out of the Premier League.

“I’m super proud of the players,” said the Wanderers’ boss, who saw his side climb up to 14th place in the table. "It was a really disappointing result on Saturday and one that hurt us all with the way it panned out, so we just felt that we needed to get back to it.

"I said to the players right before the game, it's going to take everyone tonight to be at their very best to come to a place like this and win and that wasn't just the starting 11, it was the players who we left out and who were going to have to come off the bench and make an impact, which we got. It's been a brilliant night for us and I'm very proud of everyone."

Schumacher made five changes to his starting line-up with Ito one of two players to be handed a full debut - along with Thelonius Bair -  and the attacking midfielder responded with the opening goal to back up his winner at Norwich City.

Wolves hit back just after the break and it needed a miraculous save from Bazunu to deny Adam Armstrong a potentially pivotal second goal for the hosts and set the stage for Dalby to come off the bench and restore the lead before Sheehan wrapped up victory with a brilliant long-range strike to send the 2,500 travelling fans home happy.

"In all of the games we've shown that we can be a dangerous team, certainly away from home with the quality that we've got," Schumacher added. "We went to Carrow Road and sored four goals and won and then come to Molineux in the very next away game and scored three goals and won.

"It's really pleasing and really positive but it's something that we have to stick to. There's not many better stadiums to come to and show we're the one and only Wanderers.

"What a brilliant night for them (the fans). I know everyone was disappointed with the result on Saturday but to bounce back and play like that and get three points on the road at a place like this is fantastic. I hope they all enjoy it and get home safe."
