Wanderers Head Coach Steven Schumacher was proud of his side after they earned a 2-1 victory away at Plymouth Argyle on Good Friday despite having 10 men.
After seeing John McAtee sent off late in the first-half, Wanderers battled back and led two minutes after the break from Johnny Kenny’s converted penalty before Ronan Curtis levelled for the Pilgrims 10 minutes later.
Sam Dalby’s 70th minute strike proved to be the deciding moment at Home Park after he bundled in Mason Burstow’s cross, with Wanderers returning to winning ways in Devon.
Speaking to Wanderers TV, Schumacher praised his side’s resilience to overcome adversity.
He said: “I’m so proud after what has been a difficult week, losing three players and losing one in the first-half with Macca getting a red card, then you go in and say ‘sometimes boys you have to dig in and try and find a way to win a game, these are the moments that we’re going to need every and thankfully we found a way to win which is brilliant.
“There’s not much contact and I’ve said to Macca he can’t jump in line that, he’s got to look at the ball, there’s not loads of contact, certainly not with the arm, so whether the red card was warranted, I’m not sure, but we’ll deal with whatever comes.
“We had to make an adjustment tactically and thought we’d bring Chris (Forino) on and play with three centre backs, and keep the two centre forwards up front because when you go down to 10 men you can’t just soak up pressure for the whole 45 minutes, you have to have an attacking threat if you can, so we went 3-4-2.
“We started the second-half really well, we were in their final third and Johno (George Johnston) had a couple of long throws, we were on the front foot, then Johnny (Kenny) does brilliant to get us a penalty, which he tucked away lovely, and then they equalised and we had to readjust again, and go 4-3-2 as they were getting in down the sides, so we had a lot to deal with tactically and figure out energy wise as we had no defensive mindset in midfield so Cyrus Christie came on and did great, and everyone dug in and got the result.
“You have got to be positive as you can’t create loads of chances but when you get your one or two moments you have to make the most of them, and we did, Johnny did brilliant for the first goal and Jack (Bonham) and Mason have done brilliant for the second goal, which Sam has claimed.
“They were on top when they got the equaliser and the crowd were going, so that’s when we had to adjust tactically, so credit to the players for taking on the information and executing it.
“The feeling was great at the end and to celebrate in front of our fans who travelled so far, it was a good day.
“Going down to 10 men, it’s probably one of my favourite wins, coming back to my old team as well.”
